THE new Covid-19 contact tracing app trialled on the Isle of Wight over the last four weeks, is being rolled out across the rest of England and Wales on September 24.

THE BBC has reported this morning that health secretary Matt Hancock has described the launch as "a defining moment".

The app will let people scan QR codes to register visits to pubs and restaurants and will use Apple and Google's technology to detect other smartphones.

Businesses are being asked to display QR code posters to support the app.

In May, the Isle of Wight was the testbed for the NHS's own app, which was not adopted nationwide.
