SECONDARY school students have been smoking cannabis — next to a primary school and family centre.

Students were spotted in the lane that runs up the side of Carisbrooke Primary School, off Wellington Road.

A complaint was issued to the police, who have now increased patrols in the area.

An Isle of Wight Police spokesperson said: "I can confirm we have received a report of students using cannabis by the West Newport Family Centre and Carisbrooke Primary School.

"The report was received on Monday, September 21.

"The local Neighbourhood Policing Team have increased patrols in the area and aim to be a visible presence.

"They are also working in partnership with the schools involved."
