The Wight Strollers have postponed the 2021 production of ‘Dick Whittington,' due to coronavirus.

They have promised to return in February 2022.

In a statement on Faceook, the Isle of Wight theatre group said: "We are heartbroken.

"Every year, for 40 years, The Wight Strollers have staged a pantomime in aid of Island charities and good causes, and right now we should be starting rehearsals. It all feels very strange, and not in a good way.

"But we are thanking our lucky stars that we were at least able to perform our 40th Anniversary panto, ‘Sleeping Beauty’, before the pandemic hit...and we will be back to finish the celebrations as soon as we can."

Medina Theatre in Newport is unlikely to open until at least April 2021 and rehearsals have been hit by the pandemic restrictions.

The Wight Strollers said: "We continue to stand proudly united with theatres, companies and individuals alike, and however long and tough the road ahead may seem, we will all come back from this...and we’ll do it together."
