Hillbans Pest Control has signalled its commitment to looking after Isle of Wight wildlife at the same time as eradicating pests, by appointing a conservationist to its team.

Wildlife conservationist and zoo biologist Martyn Ridgley is bringing his years of expertise to the business and extending their already extensive capability in working to support the Island's native wildlife while ensuring that target pest species are dealt with effectively.

Martyn believes conservation should be at the forefront of wildlife management and pest control.

As a conservation teacher and zookeeper Martyn has inspired many across the country to embrace an ethos of bringing biodiversity and environmental management to where they live.

Sandra Knowles, managing director of Hillbans, said: “His knowledge and experience will assist in developing our work in an even more environmentally conscious way, to the benefit of our customers and the Island's environment.”

Hillbans said the latest announcement reflects the continuous investment in the business.

It is also introducing in a new rodent control system, specifically relevant to the Island's more rural setting where traditional poisons may prove harmful to the non-pest wildlife, such as red squirrels.

It says this new system eliminates the possibility of secondary poisoning and promotes an environment where native species can survive, thrive and flourish.

Senior technician Patrick Knowles is joining the prestigious British Pest Control Association’s wildlife panel, a group which seeks to ensure that best practice decisions and guidelines for the industry are made to the benefit of native wildlife.
