WEDNESDAY (October 28) sees the official reopening of Bembridge Heritage and Visitor Centre at its new location in Weaver’s Yard.

The move comes as a result of the original building suffering damp through the walls and a leaking roof, threatening the integrity of the archive.

This became serious during the severe wet weather last December and January, when the centre had to find secure dry storage quickly to save the items inside.

A spokesperson for the centre said: "The move and set up for reopening has taken two months. In that time we have had considerable support from members, friends, groups and local businesses to achieve a new Heritage Centre for Bembridge.

"We are indebted to them for their time, skills and resources in what was a real village effort. Bembridge now has a Heritage Centre to be proud of, we hope people will agree when they visit."

A maximum of six visitors with face masks will be allowed into the building at one time — including the volunteer on duty — and a number of other measures are in place.
