PAN Together will fund free school meals for vulnerable children at Barton Primary School, and is calling on Island businesses for support.

The charity — which supports and provides a community hub for residents of East Newport — has offered lifeline support services to local residents in need throughout the coronavirus pandemic.

Isle of Wight Councillor and charity trustee, Geoff Brodie, said: “The Covid-19 pandemic has been a period when Pan Together has really stepped up for our community.

"The trustees have agreed we must act in this instance. We will, therefore, use up to the minimum £3,300 required from our charity’s reserves.

“We are calling on local businesses to contribute something towards this amount if they can.”

Rachel Thomson, Pan Together’s community centre manager, said:“Unless the Government reverses its decision and listens to Marcus Rashford's (proposals), we will be providing a minimum of 110 local children with £30 meal vouchers so they are not victims of Christmas holiday hunger."

Anyone wishing to make a donation to assist Pan Together in its mission to provide free meals for children during the festive season can contact Rachel on 248170, email enquiries@pantogether.org.uk or visit the charity's Facebook page.
