THE Isle of Wight has seen another significant rise in confirmed Covid-19 cases today (Sunday), according to the latest figures from Public Health England.

Yesterday (Saturday) saw the largest daily rise the Island had even seen when cases jumped to 844 — an increase of 41.

Today, a futher 13 recorded cases take the cumulative total to 857.

These are all cases of people register on the Isle of Wight.

University students not currently on the Island, but still registered to an Island address may affect the total number of cases but officials have said it may only be a small number, and cannot give a figure.

Latest data from Public Health England, which breaks down the number of Covid-19 cases by age and date, found in the week between October 30 and November 6, those aged between 20 and 44 accounted for more than 40 per cent of cases.

According to NHS data, numbers remain low at St Mary's Hospital, but there have been patients on ventilated beds during October.

As of Thursday, 403 schoolchildren on the Island were self-isolating, due to positive cases within their bubbles.

To date there have been 46 Covid-19 patient deaths at St Mary's Hospital, in Newport, 45 in care homes, three in the community and one in a hospice.
