Vectis Radio has announced the winners of a challenge to write a 15 minute radio play.

They will be recorded and broadcast on the community station.

Presenter Maggie Currie said: “We came up with the idea to get people writing while they had time on their hands.

The response was amazing and the quality of the submissions was outstanding.”

A panel of judges said the standard was so high that they had great difficulty in reaching a conclusion, awarding two additional highly commended accolades in the adult category.

Overall winner in the 12-17 year old category was Jess McCallum, who will receive book tokens in addition to the play being recorded and broadcast.

In the adult category, the two highly commended plays were written by Brian Wills and Cris Eli Blak.

The overall winner in the adult category was Samuel Laughton. Samuel will receive a signed copy of RC Bridgestock's latest book, Payback, in addition to his play being recorded and broadcast.

Ian Mac, station manager, said: "We are always amazed by how much talent we have on this small Island.

"Vectis Radio is here to support the community and we are looking forward to broadcasting these plays as soon as we can. Congratulations to our winners.”
