THE number of confirmed Covid-19 cases on the Isle of Wight has risen by a further ten today (Wednesday), according to the latest figures from Public Health England.

It means the total now stands at 858.

The weekend saw a large increase in Covid numbers on the Island, with 54 new cases reported, taking the total to 857.

The number was then reduced to 848 on Monday after Public Health England updated the way it records the location of people who have been tested for COVID-19, and this is the first update since then.

There were 178 cases in October and 202 have already been reported in November.

These are all cases of people registered on the Isle of Wight.

University students not currently on the Island, but still registered to an Island address may affect the total number of cases but officials have said it may only be a small number, and cannot give a figure.
