Restaurants and cafes have been hit hard by the Covid-19 pandemic, with many closing their doors on a permanent basis.

Those that continue to trade are using takeaway options to keep themselves afloat.

Here we look at five of the best takeaways on the Isle of Wight.

1. Stotesburys Fish and Chips — St James Street, Newport

One of the Island's most popular and frequented chip shops, Stotesburys has become synonymous with quality and fantastic service.

Fish and chips are always freshly made, with a light batter and crispy chips.

Cod comes particularly highly recommended and the mushy peas are a must. It wasn't uncommon to see queues several dozen people deep outside the shop before lockdown.

2. Petesaria — School Green Road, Freshwater

A hybrid restaurant specialising in Chinese, Italian and British cuisine, Petesaria uses fresh, local ingredients where possible.

Chinese herbs and fresh vegetables are at the core of a mouthwatering menu, with Petesaria locating a fitting balance between such different cultures.

Free delivery is available on orders of at least £12 to people in Freshwater, with a fee applied for delivery elsewhere.

3. Hungry Bear — High St, Brading.

The breezy ambience of this restaurant may temporarily be unavailable, but the food remains top notch.

In addition to sought after Sunday roasts there are a variety of homemade puddings available.

Emanating from the historic Rectory Mansion, the eaterie has received rave reviews, with Hungry Bear recently awarded four stars by Matt and Cat.

4. Novo — St James' Street, Newport

A second appearance for one of Newport's most eclectic streets, which has around a dozen quality food destinations to choose from.

Novo is a veritable Aladdin's Cave which looks bijou from the outside, but offers plenty of space within. It became known for its live music and flavoursome fare.

With the music stopped — much to Rihanna's chagrin — for the time being, the food sits easily in centre stage, with a variety of platters, meal deals, wraps and specials suitable for all dietary needs.

5. Angel in the Kitchen — High Street, Bembridge.

Angel in the Kitchen is one of the Isle of Wight's leading and most highly respected caterers.

Food is prepared to suit all needs from sit-down weddings to an intimate dinner in the comfort of your own home.

Always thoughtful and true to the personality of the client, Angel in the Kitchen is a remarkable business... and the paella is of celestial proportions.

And what about yours...?
