ISLAND country music singer-songwriter Luke Guy Reed is celebrating having one of his songs selected for a Hollywood film soundtrack.
Luke, a long established part of the UK's country scene, who spent many years touring all over the UK — either with his band or solo — has an extensive back catalogue of self-penned songs and has released several albums.
He is delighted to learn his track, Flying High, from his latest album, Strait Home, has been included in the new Mel Gibson movie, Fatman, which was released on DVD on Monday last week.
It has been dubbed by one reviewer as 'the best Christmas movie in years'.
Luke's breakthrough is the product of many years of hard work getting his material recognised by the right people in the industry.
In 2003, Luke's music was picked up by John Waterman's Island label, Solent Records, which released his No Hat album nationally, along with song plugging to country music radio stations nationwide and in the United States.
This resulted in Luke being nominated for prizes in several categories in the UK Country Awards that year and winning the best song category for One More Bar, from the No Hat album.
After promoting Luke's music for some time, without success, John introduced Luke to Barry Tomes of Gotham Records in Birmingham, who regularly visits Hollywood — targeting the film industry. Barry took over the task of trying to get Luke the attention he deserves and now the fruits of this persistence has finally paid off.
