My husband and I live in the beautiful unspoilt village of Calbourne and over recent years have watched in horror, the spread of housing estates engulfing our island.

This is a place of natural beauty where people come to walk, rest and take in its wonders.

A place of refuge from the built up hurly burly of the mainland.

So why, in their infinite wisdom, are the powers that be allowing destruction of our Island by turning it into a concrete jungle?

Our ultimate income is from tourism, from those visiting the IW for its rare species of fauna and flora, for its wonderful beaches and coastal walks, not for its steadying onslaught of bricks and mortar.

We do not have the infrastructure to support this idiocy.

Please support the policy of making our island into a National Park, a sanctuary for our wildlife...before its too late!
