A COWES man who raped a woman who used to be a friend, has been told a prison sentence is likely.

Matthew Hollinsworth, 27, of Newport Road, appeared before the Isle of Wight Crown Court today (Monday).

He admitted one count of rape between September 25 and 27.

His case was adjourned to March 3 for a pre-sentence report.

Recorder R. Davison, presiding, told Hollinsworth it was almost inevitable a custodial sentence would be passed on that date.

He was granted conditional bail and must not contact the victim or go within 30 metres of her address.

Mary Aspinall-Miles, prosecuting, made an application for a sexual harm prevention order.
