It followed a report that a young person brought what is thought to have been a BB gun into the school on Albany Road, Newport.
The centre was closed for the remainder of the day.
In a statement the Island Learning Centre said: "No pupils or staff were physically harmed, and the school is due to reopen tomorrow as normal with appropriate support in place for those affected by this incident."
A 16 year old girl was arrested in St James' Street, Newport at around 11:45am this morning (Thursday).
