LOVING mother and grandmother, Mary Ellen Snow, has died aged 91.

Born in Cross Street, Cowes, to Lily and James Mumford, she went to school in the town.

She married Gerald Arthur George Snow on July 31, 1948 — at St Mary's Church in Cowes.

She met her future husband through their parents. Her mother died when Mary was 17, and her father later remarried Gerald's mother.

Mrs Snow worked from home for Readers, making lampshades while bringing up their first child, Graham, who was born in 1958.

The couple adopted their second child, Nichola, in 1969.

Mrs Snow also worked twilight shifts at Fibre Resin making television backs, and worked in their canteen once Graham and Nichola were old enough to attend school.

She enjoyed watching Graham play football for Grange Road Primary —on one occasion left before the end and missed the moment he scored the winning goal against Parkhurst Primary.

Mrs Snow also followed and supported Nichola at various events with Medina Marching Band and Wight Legionnaires.

Her working years concluded in the kitchens at Frank James Hospital, East Cowes.

In 1989, Mrs Snow retired but continued working part-time as a cleaner at weekends until her husband died in 1998.

She liked to play bingo in her spare time, locally at both East Cowes Conservative Club and East Cowes Town Hall.

Mrs Snow also liked a little flutter on the horses and enjoyed buying her weekly lottery and scratch cards.

She cherished the times she had with her grandchildren and the odd sleepover.

Mrs Snow was a member of the East Cowes Age Concern Club until she moved to Newport to live at Homewight House. She later moved to Brighstone Grange.

Mrs Snow died on February 10, 2021. She leaves her children, grandchildren Annemarie, Vikki, Alice, Sophie and Beatrice, and great grandchildren Codi, Harley, Olivia and Mackenzie.

Her funeral will take place on Thursday, March 11, at the Isle of Wight Crematorium — invitation only due to Covid.
