EMERGENCY services on the Isle of Wight are attending a fire in Ventnor this evening (Saturday).

Two police vehicles, paramedics and four appliances sent by the Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service, are at Spring Gardens in Ventnor, following an emergency call to a domestic property, at around 6.53pm.

The entire road was blocked by the large number of emergency services vehicles. 

A garage has been cordoned off.

UPDATE 7.40PM: Following an initial fire investigation, the fire originated from a small bag of rubbish in the garage of a domestic property.

The fire was extinguished quickly, but a female casualty was taken by ambulance to St Mary's Hospital, Newport, suffering smoke inhalation. 

The investigation is now in the hands of the Isle of Wight Police, who have been approached for a statement.

Firefighters stood down at 7.29pm.
