AN ISLE of Wight man has been arrested after a fish and chip shop was targeted for burglary this morning (Saturday).

The police were called at 5.45am following reports of two men smashing the window of The Codfather takeaway on the corner of George Street and the Esplanade in Ryde.

The men fled before officers arrived at the scene.

However, one of the suspects, a 23-year-old from Newport, was arrested in nearby Church Lane, off Union Street, on suspicion of attempted burglary.

He remains in custody at this time.

An area search was conducted for the second suspect, but he has not yet been located, a police spokesperson said.
