The threat that Chillerton and Rookley Primary School could close is devastating and unnecessary.

The Lib Dems believe that the Stenbury Foundation and the education authority have failed the school, failed children and failed to support the local community.

The head and governors have been stretched by the current Covid crisis and not had the support they deserve to make this school and its sister school in Godshill the thriving success you would expect in a supportive rural community.

The current federation have turned a successful school into one that needs improvement.

The recent steps moving pre school and the reception class to Godshill and encouraging other children to move is deeply undermining.

We call upon the federation to reconsider their approach and to seek support from the education authority, local community and parish councils.

All interested organisations and individuals need to encourage parents and carers of children in the surrounding areas to join and rebuild a successful community school.
