ISLE of Wight musician Doug Alldred, regularly seen sporting a bowler hat while playing with his band The Silver Lining at events across the Island, has announced he will stand in the May 6 council elections on behalf of the Green Party.

Doug said: “I've always had a keen interest in politics, studying it at A-Level before playing in bands, recording albums, and touring across Europe took over a large part of my life.

"Politics has always remained close to my heart, and gradually I've become convinced I'd like to throw my hat into the ring and try to make a difference to the place I was born, grew up and still live.

"The Green Party candidates across the Island are an inspiring group of people I am proud to have been able to join – I believe we can make a positive difference to this Island we all love.”

Doug is the Isle of Wight Green Party candidate for the brand new Brighstone, Calbourne & Shalfleet ward, which includes many West Wight villages and largely replaces the defunct Central Wight ward.

The elections take place on May 6, with candidates likely to focus predominantly on the Island's recovery from the pandemic.
