ISLAND student Amelia Brocklebank was lost for words when she discovered she had gained a special award for her acting.

She had success in a recent drama examination through the New Era Academy.

The examining body awarded Priory School pupil Amelia with The Ray Winstone Certificate of Excellence for gaining the highest mark internationally in a devised drama exam.

Amelia, 14, who studies with Jeni Law School of Speech and Drama, took her Grade 5 Devised Drama exam in July.

She was required to script and perform two solo acting scenes.

Amelia centred her first scene on a jealous girl getting her comeuppance at a friend’s birthday party, while her second scene was about the Round the Island yacht race and saw her character getting into trouble at sea.

Amelia took advice from the RNLI and included that in her script.

Jeni said: "Amelia worked very hard and I’m thrilled she has received this recognition."
