ASPIRING and experienced Island writers are invited to an informative, inclusive and interactive writing workshop.

Brevity — the Isle of Wight's Literary Handbill — is running a workshop on November 16 at Monkton Arts in Ryde.

Participants can expect prose innovation and poetry experimentation, top tips, exercises and support.

The workshop is led by published writers, Maggie Sawkins and Anmarie Bowler.

Maggie has more than 25 years’ experience teaching in community and health care settings.

She holds an MA with distinction in creative writing, and is a professional member of the National Association of Writers in Education.

Her live literature production, Zones of Avoidance, won the 2013 Ted Hughes Award for new work in poetry.

Anmarie, meanwhile, is the editor and founder of Brevity.

She is a writer and theatre maker, with a masters degree from the playwriting programme at the University of Birmingham.

Her play AKA was adapted into a multi-award-winning short film by director Dave Maybrick and Newland Films.

She recently served as head copy writer for The Wight Book — a large format hardback which raised money for Island charities.

The workshop will run from 4.30pm to 7pm.

Those wishing to attend are encouraged to bring stationery, including pens, pencils and notebooks.
