I wholeheartedly endorse Dennis H. Murphie's praise of the staff at St. Mary's Hospital in Newport (CP, 29-04-22).

I have been on kidney dialysis since the start of the year, and think that the renal ward staff are marvellous.

It's not exactly a barrel of laughs for the patients, who have to spend up to four hours per session hooked up to a dialysis machine three times a week, but this experience is made bearable by the staff, who are unfailingly courteous, considerate, highly professional and funny — laughter is the most common sound on the ward.

I also hope that when the staff go home at the end of a long shift, they can take comfort in knowing what a difference they have made to their patients.
