More than £4 million has been paid out in energy rebates by the Isle of Wight Council.

More payments are stil to be made.

Just over 27,400 of the Island's households have received the national £150 payment, to offset the costs of rising energy prices.

The money is being paid to council tax payers in bands A-D (and E if the resident is in receipt of disabled persons' reduction) and it does not have to be repaid.

Who has received the energy rebate on the Isle of Wight?

So far, around 70 per cent of direct debit payers have been among those to receive the payment.

If I don't pay by direct debit, how do I get my energy rebate?

For those who do not pay by direct debit (around 18,000 accounts), letters are being sent out.

The Isle of Wight Council says it will take up to a month to contact those residents.

The letter will contain an online code to complete an application form asking for your bank details.

Who is eligible for an energy rebate?

You are eligible if your property is in band A-D and:

  • you are living at the address on 1 April 2022;
  • the council tax bill was in your name on 1 April 2022;
  • the rebate has not already been claimed by another household member;
  • the property is not a second home or unoccupied.

Details of a scheme for those not eligible for the rebate are due to be published.
