SUMMER has arrived for the hundreds of children and adults who will descend on the golden sands of Appley Beach in Ryde this weekend for annual festival of sport — the Wight Wave Beach Fest.
Appley will be the hub of sports including volleyball, football, tennis, netball and paddleboard racing, enhanced by live music, a cocktail bar, barbecue and Forza Fan Zone, on Saturday and Sunday.
The Wight Wave team, led by Luke Kerr, will hold a series of championships across multiple age groups.
In all, there will be 22 finals played.
In the run up to the festival, Wight Wave and the Football Fun Factory delivered a Beach Sports Fun Day to 136 children at Appley, assisted by 14 coaches, who helped the event run smoothly — giving the children a challenge, while making it great holiday fun.
On the music front, DJ Jakey Chan will be performing afternoon sets on both days of the festival, between 2pm and 4pm.
Jakey headlined the Electro Love tent at the Isle of Wight Festival this year.
He has also played at numerous festivals, including Rhythmtree, Camp Bestival and many more.
"Having local Island DJs at our event is a priority to us — and we are buzzing to have Jakey involved in our event this year," said Wight Wave organisers.
"Come on down to have a dance, a few drinks and soak up the atmosphere.
"We know for certain Jakey will get you all up and dancing on the sand, whilst still enjoying all the sports we have on offer this year."
