We appear to be spending precious taxpayers' money on completely the wrong things.

Why does a small hospital require an executive director of communication, supported by a team of around six people? It’s a complete absurdity.

What crucial role do they perform that benefits patients?

Spinning stories in the national media about drones flying in medicines doesn’t fool anyone.

It certainly does not fool the many, many Isle of Wight residents who are experiencing long queues waiting outside their local Boots pharmacy, only to be then told their prescription will be ready tomorrow.

We certainly do not need a whole new public relations industry as part of our NHS, whose raison d'être is peddling vanity project stories in the national media designed to pull a veil and smokescreen over services that are clearly failing many Islanders.

A drone with the capacity to carry a couple of packets of paracetamol is going to be inconsequential given the scale of the fundamentals that need addressing.

So let’s dispense with the NHS spin merchants, and use that money more productively instead.
