"PLEASE Sir, I want some more!"

The Apollo Theatre is still delivering 'more' after half a century, and to kick off its 50th anniversary season it is preparing a spectacular version of Lionel Bart’s iconic musical, Oliver!

Under the direction of Joe Plumb and musical director Julie Jones, the production promises to be bold, innovative and exciting.

The streets of Victorian England come to life as Oliver, a malnourished orphan in a workhouse, becomes the neglected apprentice of an undertaker.

Oliver escapes to London and finds acceptance among a group of petty thieves and pickpockets led by the eccentric Fagin.

When Oliver is captured for a theft that he did not commit, the benevolent victim, Mr Brownlow takes him in.

Fearing the safety of his hideout, Fagin employs the sinister Bill Sykes and the sympathetic Nancy to kidnap him back, threatening Oliver’s chances of discovering the true love of a family.

Joe said: ‘This performance bursts out of the stage and fills the whole auditorium.

"We’ve assembled a cracking team of performers who are going to deliver a very special performance."

A selection of female leads take on some of the iconic roles including Zoe Divers as the feisty Nancy, Julie Jones as Fagin and Emma Wilkinson as Dodger.

Freddie Hollis is taking on the titular role as Oliver alongside a cast of young performers in Fagin’s Gang.

Oliver! hits the Apollo stage in Newport's Pyle Street from August 19 to 27.
