AN ISLE of Wight community cafe closed its doors for the final time last Friday (September 16), but vows to make a return - albeit with a different purpose.

The Living Room was a feature of Newport High Street for over eight years, serving hot and cold food.

However, for many reasons, the decision was made to close the kitchen and focus on being a Heat Bank, or warm place for people to hang out throughout winter.

The change will still see The Revive Community Hub, as it will be renamed, serve hot and cold drinks at affordable prices, and continue its suspended drink scheme, so it is free for those who cannot afford it.

This will involve working with volunteers to run the Hub, which currently has enough to open Tuesdays and Thursday from 11am to 2pm, but the director hopes the church and others will step up and help them open more.

Revive Community Hub also run Newport Youth Cafe, as well as other projects, at The Living Room site.
