THE World Cup gets underway in Qatar tomorrow (Sunday, November 20), with many Islanders eyeing up their local to soak up the footballing atmosphere.

It all kicks off with the opening ceremony at 3pm, before the first game of the tournament sees the hosts take on Ecuador at 4pm.

England’s first game is against Iran at 1pm on Monday (November 21).

Islanders may be looking for the best pubs and bars that are showing the football, so we have put together this guide… let us know if there are any we’ve missed!

The Hogshead on High Street will be showing every World Cup match.

The Crispin

Found on Carisbrooke Road, The Crispin with open at midday on Monday for England’s first World Cup game.

The Waverley Inn

The Waverley on Clatterford Road will be opening from 11am on Monday for breakfasts ahead of England's opening game.

All of England's games in the tournament will be shown at the pub.

Newport Conservative Club

The Conservative Club on Pyle Street will be showing all England and Wales games.

"If you want to watch other matches and the TV isn't on, please just ask."

East Cowes

The Prince of Wales

The Prince of Wales Public House on York Avenue will open from midday on Monday, showing England’s opening match against Iran.

“Get yourselves settled in with a drink and watch the match.”

Victoria Tavern

Found on Clarence Road, Victoria Tavern is showing all live games, including England’s first game, with beer pitcher promotions and burgers.

The pub is open for bookings for England’s second game against the USA on Friday (November 25).


The Union Inn 

A quaint old English pub surrounded by the yacht clubs of Cowes, found on Watch House Lane, The Union Inn will show all of the World Cup matches.

The Kingston Arms

A traditional wet pub offering a warm welcome, The Kingston Arms on Newport Road will screening games, starting with Qatar and Ecuador's opener at 4pm tomorrow.


The Bugle Coaching Inn

The Bugle Coaching Inn in The Square will show the kick-off in Qatar, with the first game being played tomorrow.

St Helens

The Vine Inn

Found on Upper Green, The Vine will be showing all World Cup games across two screens.

The Ventnor Winter Gardens

Ventnor Winter Gardens on Pier Street says it had a blast airing the Euros and is excited to bring the same great atmosphere for the World Cup.

The bar/grill is taking books for all the England games, and on Monday, all drinks and food are 25 per cent off.

Smokin' Jack's

Smokin' Jack's on Clarence Road in Wroxall will be screening tomorrow's opening game in Qatar.

The Jack Daniels themed American Restaurant will show all of England's matches on its big screens, with exclusive drinks and food offers available on game day.


Wight Knuckle Brewery at the Pilot Boat Inn

The craft microbrewery with tap room and pizzeria on Station Road will be showing the world cup.

Found on Avenue Road, Caulkheads will be showing all the games on its new large projector screen.

On Monday, its kitchen is closed due to maintenance work, but the bar will be open from midday for England’s first match.

Merrie Gardens Farm

Merrie Gardens on Newport Road in Lake will be showing all the live games. 


Waterfront Inn

Waterfront Inn on the Esplanade will be screening all World Cup matches.

“Make it your venue to keep up to date with England’s progress.”


The Blacksheep Bar and Club Lounge

The Blacksheep on Union Street will be showing all live games on its big screens but says it will be turning things up for the Three Lions.

On Monday, for England’s first game, the match will be played on the big screens with full sound.

“Grab a late breakfast or beer and burger.”

Ryde Town Club

Found on Star Street, Ryde Town Club will be showing the England games on the big screens. 

"Cheap drinks, brilliant atmosphere and open to non-members."

The King Lud 

Open from 11am, The King Lud on the Esplanade will be screening World Cup matches everyday.
