Christ the King College on the Isle of Wight, including its sixth form, will be closed to all but the most vulnerable pupils when teachers strike, on February 1.

The faith school, on Carisbrooke's Wellington Road, has told parents of its plans in an email sent out today (Friday).

It will remain open for the children of critical care workers and those who are vulnerable but will be closed to all others, across years seven to 13.

Those who attend school on the NEU's first day of action, over pay and funding, will follow a different timetable.

In total, the NEU says its action will impact 23,400 schools across England and Wales, including those on the Island.

Those who  stay at home will be able to complete remote learning, Christ the King College said.

The school has described the situation as difficult and asked for the understanding of parents.

Earlier, as the Isle of Wight County Press reported, the Isle of Wight Education Federation has announced that Medina and Carisbrooke Colleges will be closed.

It had planned to stay open, but today said a decision to close was 'based on the health and safety of our students and staff."

  • The four projected strike days for Isle of Wight teachers are Wednesday, February 1, Thursday, March 2, Wednesday, March 15 and Thursday, March 16 2023.

Across the country, seven days of action will take place in February and March and any single school will be hit by four of those seven days.

Teachers in sixth form colleges will also take action, in a separate but linked dispute.
