REMARKABLE veteran swimmer Jenny Ball could not have represented the Isle of Wight in any way better than she did at the 30th Guernsey Masters International Swim Meet — bringing home a haul of seven gold medals.
Competing at the Beau Sejour Leisure Centre, in the Channel Island's capital, St Peter's Port, Jenny swam in the 85-89 years category, coming out on top every time, despite some fierce competition in her events.
Representing the Island as part of Ryde Swimming Club's 'Masters' team, Jenny, 85, was joined by Matthew Sussmes, who also excelled in the 55-59 years age group — picking up a gold, silver and bronze medal.
Jenny and Matthew competed among a very strong field of swimmers, at all levels, from not only the Channel Islands, but as far afield as Scotland, Ireland, Manchester, Exeter and London.
The Ryde club plans to send a larger team next year to fly the flag for the Island.
Earlier in the year, Jenny took part in the 1,500m freestyle event, held at K2 Leisure Centre, Crawley — earning herself a masters swim qualifying time of 35 minutes.
