ONE OF best loved theatrical groups on the Isle of Wight, The Wight Strollers, will not be taking part in any carnivals this year.

Established in 1981, The Wight Strollers have royally entertained and raised money for worthy causes ever since — becoming a real crowd favourite for not only their pantomimes, but at carnivals across the Island, year in-year out.

However, this year, due to circumstances beyond their control, the Stroller will not be performing, including tonight's Sandown Carnival.

In a statement on their Facebook page, the group posted: "Ahead of tonight’s Sandown Carnival, we thought the time was right to let everyone know that unfortunately we won’t be participating in the Island’s 2023 carnival season.

"We’re absolutely gutted not to be dancing the streets like usual.

"This isn’t for the lack of trying, particularly by our fab carnival committee. By far the biggest obstacle has been we haven’t found anywhere to build and paint our float.

"Ultimately, the decision was made not to take part this year.

"Our next stop is panto, and, while we’ve been very generously given some temporary storage, we’re still looking for a more permanent solution — particularly for building and painting — so if anyone can help, please do let us know.

"In the meantime, we want to wish all the carnival committees and participants the very best for a wonderful carnival season.

"We’ll be watching and waving — and we can’t wait to be back in full force with you throughout next year!"
