Island artist Linda Edge from On The Edge Graphics visited Old Charlton House in Cowes and spent time assisting and encouraging residents to paint their own canvasses.

At the start of the session, the residents were a little nervous and convinced they could not paint.

However, after an hour, they had all painted a picture of their choice and were very proud of their achievements.

The paintings have been displayed on the mantlepiece in the lounge and the other residents and their families have all mentioned how they make the room brighter and more cheerful.

Linda said: “I was blown away by their artwork, they were so amazing. "The residents are so focused. They’ll have so much fun painting more beautiful pictures”.

Debbie Webb, activity coordinator, said: “We are so grateful to Linda for coming and sharing her knowledge and enthusiasm with our residents.

“It was marvellous to see their confidence growing and their attitude becoming so much more positive.

“Obviously, the next step will be to incorporate more painting into our timetable so that the residents can keep improving this new skill.”
