An Isle of Wight charity centre is looking for a volunteer to help its members by taking on the mantle of minibus secretary.
Well known in the town, the Shanklin Age Concern 50 Plus Centre, on Shanklin’s Regent Street, provides full lunches three days a week and lighter snacks on the other two, with specials at the weekends.
The charity also offers crafts, aerobics, bingo, games, shopping outings, Friday afternoon ride-and-stop for tea and cakes and provides a home for the Chess Club.
For more than 50 years, the Centre has provided a 14-seater minibus for its members, who enjoy visits to activities on the Island.
The current volunteer who acts as secretary and as a driver for the minibus has indicated he wishes to stand aside in the autumn – with the charity seeking a volunteer to take on this role.
The job includes ensuring the minibus is insured and well serviced, fuel account maintained, blue badge is up-to-date and obtaining Government rebates while working closely with the Centre manager. The charity covers any out-of-pocket expenses.
Anyone willing to take on the role is asked to contact Peter Coleman on 01983 866342 for more information.
