Steps leading to an Isle of Wight seafront won't be reopening anytime soon, the Isle of Wight Council has confirmed.

Shanklin's Osborne Steps, which connect Eastcliff Promenade to the beach, were closed due to concerns over cliff movements and the safety of users.

An investigation has been taking place to see what works were required to carry out a fix.

It has revealed that part of previously redundant path is now at risk of falling onto the current path.

A void has also been identified behind the section of retaining wall that is bulging within the lower section of the steps/footpath complex.

The council said it is necessary to establish the likely cause of the void that has been identified, prepare a design solution to rectify this and source the necessary materials.
