ONE of Britain's great sporting icons, boxing legend Frank Bruno, will be appearing on the Isle of Wight for one night only — lifting the lid on his action-packed career in the ring and life after he hung up his gloves.
On Saturday, at Cowes Yacht Haven, the event will feature an unscripted interview with the former world heavyweight superstar.
During his incredible pro boxing career, Frank won 40 of his 45 fights, the vast majority of them as KOs, with the highlight being his WBC World Heavyweight Championship victory in 1995.
The larger than life celebrity last came to the Isle of Wight in 1984, facing a situation he was not used to — at the height of his popularity.
On Facebook, he said: "I was refused entry to a club due to wearing jeans. Do you remember those days you could not get in venues if you were wearing jeans of any value?
"There's only a few tickets left now for Saturday. Where's my jeans ... he he."
Frank, who never took himself too seriously, has remained popular with the British public — much like Henry Cooper did before him — still appearing regularly on stage during the panto season.
The evening will also feature an, as-yet unnamed, "top class" comedian, and a charity auction of sporting memorabilia.
Starts at 6.30pm.
