A fundraiser has been launched for the family of a 'much-loved' Isle of Wight teacher and mother-of-two, who has been left with serious injuries following a crash in Cowes yesterday (Thursday).

Gilly Harland, who works at Christ the King College, suffered 'potentially life-threatening' injuries in the collision on Newport Road.

Her friend Louise Reilly said she was hit by a car outside her home. She remains in Southampton General Hospital.

The collision happened on Newport Road, near the junction with Smithards Lane, just after 8am.

Posting on the GoFundMe page, Louise said: "This fund has been set up to assist with ferries and accommodation for her partner and children when visiting her on the mainland, and to help towards the loss of earnings for her and her fiancé Chris, a self employed, Island-renowned musician.

More than £3,000 has been raised so far.

Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary issued a witness appeal following the collision.

Officers want to speak to the drivers of a red motorcycle and the driver of a white lorry.

A 79-year-old man, from Cowes, arrested on suspicion of driving whilst unfit through drink or drugs, has been released with no further action, police said.
