A FORECAST of gusty winds tomorrow (Sunday) has led to Isle of Wight charity Mountbatten cancelling its popular Fairlee Fireworks extravaganza for the second time in the space of just over a month.

Storm Ciaran put paid to the first one last month, but with the bad weather unrelenting and a poor forecast in store, organisers had no choice but to pull the plug on the Newport event for a second time.

They said: "We are very sad to let you know we've had to cancel tomorrow's event on safety grounds.

"Our planning team have advised us the forecasted gusty winds on site mean it isn't safe to go ahead.

"We are so sorry to have to do this, it's very disappointing for all involved.

"As you can imagine, a lot of the costs for this event have already been paid, meaning Mountbatten will lose a substantial amount of income from its cancellation.

"We would therefore ask that you consider donating your ticket fee if you are able."

Thank you so much for your support and so sorry to share this disappointing news.
