A new boardwalk has opened at Munsley Bog, providing access across the wetland site in Godshill.

On Wednesday, December 20, the 1st Rookley and Godshill Beavers came along as the ribbon was officially cut.

Visitors to the site can now scan a QR code to listen to the Beavers retell the story of the Three Billy Goats Gruff while trip, trapping over the bridge… but beware of the troll!

There is also a sensory trail, with visitors encouraged to use all their senses to experience the site in new ways.

Natural Enterprise’s Gift to Nature, which manages the site, has worked in partnership with Isle of Wight Council’s Rights of Way team and Godshill Parish Council to replace the old boardwalk.

Green Gym and other volunteers also helped to clear invasive species from the area to protect this valuable wetland habitat.

Brian Friend, Chairman of Natural Enterprise, said: “We hope that local families will have fun looking for the troll and enjoy being close to nature at the same time.”

Darrel Clarke, Rights of Way Manager, said: "It’s great to have some positive news at a time when the rights of way network is suffering so many problems due to the weather.

"This scheme is a prime example of partners working together to significantly improve a popular footpath in a challenging area.

"Rights of Way would like to thank everyone involved and especially Gift to Nature for coordinating and undertaking the works.”
