We’ve picked out a selection of ideas to help you decide what half-term fun to get up to next week.

Island cycle tracks and walks

If you want to get into nature this half-term, there are around 200 miles of Island cycle tracks, byways and bridleways for you to explore.

Keep an eye out for kingfishers, red squirrels and even highland cattle.

Alternatively, you could visit Carisbrooke Castle for a fun walk around the moat - you may even spot a donkey or two in the stables!

Donkey Sanctuary

The IW Donkey Sanctuary, in the Wroxall Valley, can also offer a free afternoon out, with no booking required.

The Sanctuary says most visitors spend two to three hours at the attraction, taking time to see over 100 donkeys and ponies.

Special events are being held, including free Meet the Donkeys tours, which are available each day at 11.30am and 1.30pm.

Brading and Newport Roman Villas

Clay Days are returning to Newport Roman Villa this February half-term on Wednesday (14) and Friday (16) between 9.30am and 3pm.

Entries to Newport Roman Villa, including all activities, will be just £1 per person. 

The site will remain fully open to explore the historic remains, including the museum and garden.

Meanwhile, at Brading Roman Villa, there’s also plenty to enjoy – from £2 per child – this February half-term.

You can enjoy making a clay Roman love token, designing love-themed mosaic coasters, decorating biscuits, storytelling and more.

Games Night in East Cowes

MAD-Aid, an East Cowes-based charity, is launching its new MAD Games Night for this half-term.

This free event, held on Friday (16) invites families to enjoy some card and board games – you can bring your own games or use theirs!

Hot and cold drinks, cakes and snacks will be on sale with proceeds to MAD-Aid.

Museum of Island History

Meanwhile, at the Museum of Island History at the Guildhall in Newport, there will be free horse-themed craft activities for families and a horse photo hunt to guide visitors around the museum on Tuesday (13th) and Thursday (15th).

Staff will share the story of the famous Island Rodeo Riders, who were based here from 1924 to 1939 and travelled the country performing incredible stunts on horseback.

Entry to the museum is £1 for adults and 50p for children, which includes all activities.
