MORTON Common in Sandown has again been shut for safety reasons due to flood levels rising again.

Island Roads have, this lunchtime (Friday), closed the main road between Yarbridge and Sandown, after water levels rose again overnight.

They say they are also having to close Longwood Lane and cycle track in Lake because of flooding.

Yesterday (Thursday), the Environment Agency (EA) issued a flood alert as Isle of Wight water levels remain high and are expected to rise further following yesterday’s rainfall.

The flood alert is active for the Eastern Yar and tributaries from Whitwell to Bembridge.

As a result, levels at Alverstone have started to rise again and were projected to peak around 1am today.

Similarly, water levels at Sandown are anticipated to rise throughout this afternoon, evening, and overnight.

The EA warns approximately 3mm of rainfall is expected today.

A flood alert update from the EA is expected by 3pm today.
