An investigation will get underway in Ventnor tomorrow morning, Saturday, February 24, to work out the extent of a landslip on the Isle of Wight.

The Isle of Wight Council has tonight (Friday) confirmed the closure of the affected area to traffic 'as a safety measure'.

Fears were raised for a number of Isle of Wight properties, after land moved at Zig Zag Road.

Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service (HIWFRS) said on-call firefighters from Shanklin were alerted to movement affecting a number of properties, at 6.30pm.

The firefighters provided lighting for Isle of Wight Council's emergency planning team, and for Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary.

Tonight, a road closure is in place on Zig Zag Road, between its junctions with Ocean View Road and Bellevue Road.

Police tape was also evident along a cut through, from Ocean View Road to Bellevue Road.

Around 20 homes sit on a road that only opens on to the closed part of Zig Zag Road.

Earlier, Gills Cliff Road was closed after a land fall destroyed a set of traffic lights, at the junction with Castle Road.

In December, a significant fall saw garden destroyed and properties evacuated at nearby Bonchurch.
