STARTING today (Friday) and for several weeks ahead, there will be roadworks to avoid in several areas around the Isle of Wight.

Island Roads, on behalf of the Isle of Wight Council, will close a number of roads for days, nights or both for a period of one to five days, between today and Friday, May 3, to enable carriageway maintenance and investigation works to be undertaken.

The works may include carriageway and footway reconstruction and resurfacing.

"In some cases, it may be necessary to close these sections of roads on more than one occasion within this timeframe," say Island Roads.

Adverse weather will also have an impact on the works programme.
