Isle of Wight County Press nominated at Newspaper Awards 2024

The paper, in its 140th year, has been shortlisted for the local weekly newspaper of the year award at the Newspaper Awards 2024.

Last year, the paper was commended for being “a strong campaigning newspaper which really knows its Islanders, serving the community with a well-printed newspaper for almost 140 years".

The awards ceremony will be held at London Hilton Bankside, and co-editors Lucy Morgan and Lori Little will be at the event.

The Isle of Wight County Press is the Voice of the Island for trusted news and a deep understanding of its community and is officially the country’s biggest selling local weekly.

Since co-editors Lucy Morgan and Lori Little took over in March 2023, the paper has been reshaped to focus on the front page, featuring people-popping design and exclusive stories. Inside offers more photos than ever, as part of a modernised layout.

The team of reporters, based in Pyle Street, Newport, produce a minimum 80 pages of quality content, knowing their print audience is different to those who consume news online or on social media.

The paper proudly shines a spotlight on the community’s challenges and successes, celebrating achievers, holding decision-makers to account, recording legal rulings and offering a trusted space for those without a voice to speak their truth.

Lucy and Lori said: "It is a huge honour for the County Press to be recognised by industry experts as one of the best newspapers in the country.

"Print readership is important, as well as our huge digital reach, and we are proud to put out such a strong paper every week."

The County Press is up against Cambridge Independent, Ham and High, Lymington Times and New Milton Advertiser, Newbury Weekly News and The Impartial Reporter.
