EASTER was a time of goodwill in aid of Prostate Cancer UK when staff from three popular Isle of Wight pubs walked a combined 870 miles, raising more than £1,100.
Between Good Friday and Easter Sunday, staff of The Dairyman’s Daughter, Arreton, The Bargeman’s Rest, Newport, and The Steamer Inn, Shanklin, marched a combined 1,744,405 steps.
Throughout March — Prostate Cancer Awareness Month — visitors to the three Quayside Leisure pubs were given the opportunity to guess the overall number of steps taken at each location over the Easter bank holiday weekend, with the closest winning a free meal for two at the pub where they entered.

There was a £1 minimum donation to enter the competition, with all proceeds going to Prostate Cancer UK.
A raffle also took place at Arreton Barns and The Dairyman’s Daughter, with all of the 14 prizes donated by the various arts and crafts artisans onsite.
In all, £1,168.81 was raised for Prostate Cancer UK.
Jane Gibbs, a partner in the Quayside Leisure Group, which owns all three pubs, was delighted by the efforts of staff and the cause they and customers supported.
“This charity is very close to our hearts, as both mine and my husband's fathers were diagnosed with prostate cancer, which eventually led to their deaths," she said.
"We have, however, also had good friends and employees diagnosed early, with a much more positive outcome.
"It’s hard to find anyone who doesn’t know someone, be it a friend or family member, that hasn’t been affected by this form of cancer."
