TWO lip-smacking new events have been added to the 2024 calendar at the Isle of Wight Steam Railway.

As well as real ale festivals, cider and cheese events and 1940s and 1960s weekends, the Havenstreet attraction will host its new Gin and Steam Weekend, together with its regular Fish and Chip Tuesdays, throughout July and August.

The Gin and Steam Weekend, on June 15 and 16, will give gin lovers the chance to sample a whole range of craft gins, from a number of distillers at bars throughout the site — and in the luxury of an Edwardian carriage, pulled by an historic steam locomotive.

Also, the Steam Railway celebrates the great British chippie supper, with Fish and Chip Tuesdays.

Doing exactly what it says on the tin, every Tuesday, between July 2 and August 27, the attraction will host a proper fish and chip supper, with ride through the Island's countryside.

As an added bonus, there will also be a free falconry display, weather permitting, from The Falconry Experience, based in Havenstreet.

The attraction's general manager, Marc Morgan Huws, said: “Gin has become a huge growth market in Britain — and everybody loves a fish and chip supper — so we wanted to bring those two great British staples to Havenstreet this year.”
