Gurnard Primary School students are learning about road safety as part of an innovative playground project.

The school partnered with Island Roads to paint new markings, transforming a playground area into a safe, vibrant learning space.

The playground now features a compass, road layout with zebra crossing and traffic lights, hopscotch grid, Twister mat and other exciting features.

The project resulted from talks with parents Hannah Clark and Jason Boulter whose eight-year-old son Ted is a student at the school.

Hannah, who works at Island Roads, linked the school up with Spencer Jarman, the company's design and lining supervisor.

Working with early years teacher Helen Sunderland, Island Roads’ lining partners WJ used the Easter holidays to complete the work.

Helen said: "The work has really enhanced the outside space and the children love it – it’s absolutely amazing.

"Spencer was so helpful in helping us design the project and the work WJ completed is perfect. What we particularly love about the project is that it will help us teach our road safety lessons and also provides a fun learning area for the children to play in."

Island Roads backed the project by funding the paint and labour costs.
