A run away driver is being sought by police on the Isle of Wight, after officers in an unmarked vehicle were 'dangerously overtaken' by a car last night (Friday).

Police said the driver was 'so rattled' by the incident at Yaverland, he took off into a field.

The vehicle, a yellow Mini, had no insurance nor an MOT, police said.

It was seized by officers and recovered by Bartletts, at Yaverland car park.

In a message to the driver on Facebook, Sgt Sharland said: "Once you've finished your cold stroll at Yaverland, come and have a warm Cuppa at Shanklin Police Station, we'd love a chat.

"Don't wait too long, after 14 days we will crush the car and even worse, the cuppa will be cold!"

Police said they are regularly patrolling Yaverland in marked and unmarked vehicles.

It is in response to concerns about anti-social driving in the area.
