TRIBUTES have been paid to rock guitarist, Jack Green, who died on the Isle of Wight following a long battle with cancer.

Jack was born in Glasgow on March 12, 1951.

He got into music through an aunt who owned a record shop in Glasgow in the late 1950s and ’60s.

When Jack was a teenager, he started forming his own bands and playing at local youth clubs.

His first big break came when he joined the touring group of rock musical Hair, before transferring to the West End in London.

In 1972, he formed his own group called Sunshine, which got a major label contract with Warner Bros.

After they split, he joined T. Rex for a world tour, playing rhythm guitar.

Jack later joined The Pretty Things as the bass player, and performed in Jesus Christ Superstar, before briefly playing with Rainbow.

He then got signed to RCA and made five albums; Humanesque going gold in Canada, where he was hugely successful.

Jack and his wife Jackie moved to Ibiza, where they lived for many years, before returning to England and settling in Ryde on the Isle of Wight.

The musician played locally and gave guitar lessons before starting his own video production company.

He made several films for the Isle of Wight Council, including a film of Ryde Carnival and the promotional video for the Island games, which helped the Isle of Wight in winning the gig.

He had a long battle with cancer, and died at the Mountbatten hospice on April 18.
