Less than a week after coming into circulation, banknotes featuring King Charles III have reached the Isle of Wight.

A customer at The Reef in Sandown paid with one of the new £20 notes on Saturday, June 8.

Emma Salter Paine, from the restaurant, said: "It was handed it to one of our staff members, called Lily Tindall.

"We were all really surprised to see it!"

The new King Charles bank notes officially came into circulation on June 5.

They will gradually replace damaged notes or will be issued when demand increases.

The King's portrait which features is based on a picture taken in 2013.

Since 1960, notes have featured Queen Elizabeth II.

Shoppers can still use the current £5, £10, £20 and £50 notes with the late Queen.
