Hartford Care resident, Dorothy, celebrated her 103rd birthday on June 7 at Inver House care home, surrounded by her close family and the care home staff.

Agnes Field, home manager, said: "Dorothy has been living with us for a while now and she is a big part of Inver House.

"While Dorothy insisted she didn’t want a big fuss, we had to mark this special occasion.

"Our chef baked her a cake, and our team were there to celebrate and sing happy birthday to her."

Dorothy was born in Cowes and has lived on the Island all her life.

She worked in a local shop and had a paper round, before volunteering in the Second World War as an ambulance attendant.

Dorothy married her husband, Bill, at the age of 21. Bill was a shipyard plumber.

Dorothy and Bill had a son, Laurence, who joined Dorothy for her birthday celebrations.

Inver House offers residential, day care, dementia care, end-of-life care, and respite care at its 50-bedroom home in Bembridge.
